Elizabeth "Betty" Schmeisser Nelson '33

Mrs. Elizabeth "Betty" Schmeisser Nelson '33 and her husband, Karl, left a generous gift in their will to establish the Karl J. Nelson & Elizabeth Schmeisser Nelson '33 Scholarship Fund. Their named endowed fund provides financial assistance for underprivileged children.

In 2005, Mrs. Nelson said about her purpose for giving, "We learned to work hard at Calvert - how to study. I remember Mr. Hillyer teaching us World History and the history of art. I remember it vividly, Mr. Hillyer made me tie a bow in his office to be accepted into Calvert kindergarten."
